Painting with More Expression!

Friday, Saturday & Sunday
March 24, 25 & 26, 2023
9:00 am - 4:00 pm

It has been said that as artists we are either moving toward or away from abstraction. No matter where we fall on this journey we can all benefit from ideas to help us create more expressive paintings. Karen strives to interpret my subject by including my own personal touch rather than copying the reference or painting exactly what she sees. The workshop will introduce Karen’s discoveries that have helped her paint in a more expressive, “loose” manner. She will introduce a simple method for a successful pastel painting from the planning stage to the addition of those final important spices! Students will explore the use of two different underpainting techniques and how they contribute to more expressive pastel paintings. There will be demos, handouts and plenty of individual help at the easel during the workshop.

Karen is a full time artist and art educator. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband Michael. Karen received her BA in Education from the University of Florida. She currently teaches painting workshops around the world. Karen is a contemporary landscape painter. She works in most painting media but has achieved recognition for her pastel paintings. She has exhibited her award winning work around the world and has been reviewed by Pastel Journal for her wildflower paintings. She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and a Masters Circle recipient of the International Association of Pastel Societies. She was recently a faculty member at the prestigious IAPS Convention.
