Portrait Painting in 3 Ways

Friday, Saturday & Sundays
 October 13, 14 & 15, 2017
9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$400.00 + model fees

The object of this class is to understand the many aspects of painting a head study, and how we see as an artist by simplifying and isolating the main aspects of painting. Values, edges and temperature of light or color. Each day will be devoted to one of these three aspects. By breaking down the complex idea of a portrait to one of these fundamental foundations we can better understand them, adding more skills into your tool box for later use on finished studio pieces. Demonstrations will be given each day to help the students understand what it is we are trying to see and ways to interpret that into paint. Students can expect to complete three head studies during the course of this workshop. As an instructor and forever student myself, I find it helpful to not expect to create a beautiful finished piece in a class or workshop but instead expect to gain a better understanding and skill set to take back with me and apply to my own work. It is my hope that this class will do just that for the students.

Although Marci has been studying art and painting for some time, it was in 2007 when things started to move forward and she began to see what the future might hold for her as an artist. Upon entering several art competitions Marci was not only accepted in two of the top shows, but also received very substantial awards from both. An award of excellence from the OPA and the best of show award from the AIS. Not long after, she was included in Southwest Art Magazine's 21 under 31 and had her first show at Gallery Russia in Scottsdale, AZ. Since then Marci has continued to paint full time, focusing on her annual show. I've heard it said “if you paint from the heart, you will reach the heart of your view,” and that is my hope.
