Barb Benstein

Painting Lifelike Pet Portraits from Your Photos

Saturday & Sunday
 November 16 & 17, 2019
9:00 am - 4:00 pm

The first step in creating your pet portrait is starting with a good photo. You will learn how to look for the right poses, or how to take a proper photo of your pet by having the right kind of lighting and the best angles.

Once you have the proper photograph, Barb will teach you what to use and what to change in your photo when doing your painting. She will show you how to achieve different types of fur, expressive eyes, wet noses and much more. Through several demonstrations, you will learn how to achieve these various skills.

Once youíve done several samples of your own, you will apply these techniques to your own painting.

Barb Bensteinís love of art started at an early age. Mostly self-taught, she specializes in detailed pastel paintings of people and pets, as well as homes and landscapes. After working as a graphic artist for 10 years, Barb began painting full-time in 1993. Painting with pastels has always been her favorite medium. She loves the vibrancy of the colors and the richness of the texture when applied to sand paper. Barb has won many awards. Her commissioned paintings hang in Germany, Japan and Canada as well as throughout the United States.
